In addition to powerful visible white light for tactical illumination, PentagonLight™ also offers a plethora of solutions for providing supplemental infrared (IR) illumination for night vision goggles and devices (NVG). The use of supplemental infrared illumination dramatically improves the intensity of NVG field of view on both the viewable distance and the viewable angle. Supplemental IR illumination is especially critical when entering a confined environment such as rooms and corners where ambient light from other sources is not present. It can also be useful for field illumination and improving visual quality of objects at distance.
The traditional method for providing IR illumination is by applying F2-IR Infrared Filter to the output of an incandescent light such as our eX2 Handheld Xenon Lights or MS2 Weapon Mounted Tactical Light System. The filter will block out visible white light and transmit only the infrared portion of the light spectrum for enhancing visual clarity of NVG. An infrared filter is only applicable to a xenon light source since it is a full spectrum light. An LED light source only provides very low level of infrared emission; therefore, we do not recommend using an IR filter on LED lights. For LED lights, we recommend incorporating a dedicated IR illuminator such as the S2-IR Dedicated Infrared Illuminator or migrating to the NVGLight Weapon Mount System.
The MD2 LED NVGLight is our most advanced tactical illumination system for the military and the law enforcement agencies with night vision requirements. The independent IR Illuminator Pod allows the white light to be always available on demand when needed, while IR illumination can be activated without the need of applying an IR filter over the white light. The ease of operation with quick access to a powerful white light of NVGLight ensure the tactical advantage of its operator.
The application of an IR filter over a white light can only generate a narrow field illumination, while the IR Illuminator Pod of our NVG-Light will only enhance a limited view on night vision devices. They are primarily used for improving visual clarity of dark corners and hidden areas from ambient light at close range. But often, there is a need for a powerful IR illuminator to provide a broader field of view with greater depth for illuminating objects and possible adversaries in the distance. Such IR illuminators are useful for illuminating the entire open field, warehouse interior, or building exterior. PentagonLight™ has therefore developed a powerful yet compact IR illuminator for meeting this need. By aligning as many high power IR LED's as possible into a 1.25" diameter head of a 6-volt system, we are able to achieve as much as 4-watt of infrared output, allowing night vision devices to work at their best.
MS2 IR Illuminator is integrated with an A.R.M.S. #17S compact mount for direct attachment to a Picatinny rail. The throw levers quick release mechanism easily allows its detachment to reduce weight for those operations when a night vision device is not used. The MS2 IR Illuminator is an essential gear for military units that often have needs for illumination over a large area. A handheld version of MS2 IR Illuminator is our S2-IR Dedicated Infrared Illuminator.
