PentagonLight™ primarily provides three light sources: Xenon, Luxeon LED, and Multi-LED. Each light source has its own unique characteristics for meeting your illumination needs.
Xenon Lights are best known for their extreme sun-like bright light produced by none other than xenon-filled gas lamps. These lights have traditionally been the tactical lights of choice because of their brightness and compactness. With a fast-burning but powerful and collimated light, the xenon lights are excellent for both brightness and distance.
Luxeon LED Lights have a focused bright light yet energy efficient, utilizing genuine Lumileds Luxeon as the light source, a.k.a. the light of silicon. It is shock-proof with a long lifetime without needing frequent bulb replacements. With electronic circuitry engineered to optimize for maximal brightness for extending usable time, Luxeon LED Lights are high-tech flashlights for the 21st century.
Selecting the proper light source is important as it relates to the requirement of your illumination needs and mission requirements. Choose xenon if there are plans to use an infrared filter since LED lights do not emit enough infrared portion of the light. But LED lights are very energy efficient so they have longer runtime as compared to xenon lights at similar light output level. LED becomes more efficient as it becomes dimmer so unlike xenon light, it has long duration of diminishing light output after exceeding the initial period at peak brightness. This advantage can be useful since the light will not cut out at the most critical juncture. The light beam color of a LED light is near pure white. It can subject to ambient light, causing it to appear not as bright in a semi-lit room. Reliability-wise, LED is made from wafer. As a semiconductor material, it is shockproof against weapon recoil and vibration-proof. It will not need future lamp replacements like xenon lights which will eventually burn-out. LED is more suitable for room-to-room clearance and close quarter combat since it only projects about 70% in distance compared to xenon at similar light output. In the end, if these differences do not affect how the light will be used, then the personal preferences on the beam characteristic should be considered when making a choice between a xenon light and a LED light.
The third type of light source is multi-LED. Our Investigative Lights are based on these multi-LED modules designed for task specific illumination needs such as forensic applications. The multi-LED module is composed of multiple 5-mm ultra bright LED's closely packed for a uniform and smooth coverage of illumination. Unlike cheap LED-based flashlights with merely 4 or 5 LED's, our multi-LED modules starts with S2 Lights which have 19 LED's packed into a 1.25" head, making them the most compact multiple LED lights in the market today. The uniqueness of these lights are the redundancy of having multiple LED's with low power consumption, allowing them to have long runtime.
