CR123A Lithium Batteries
All PentagonLight tactical lights except the side LED and laser module are powered by CR123A lithium batteries. So why did we choose CR123A as the primary battery for powering our tactical lights? It is actually very straight-forward.
Not only are the CR123A batteries smaller, but the use of metal lithium as the anode active material makes lithium batteries lighter than dry cell batteries of the same volume. One single cell type CR123A battery supplies a rated voltage of 3 volts, approximately twice that of dry cell batteries. With higher voltage, PentagonLight is able to provide more powerful lights since they generally have higher voltage requirements. Unlike alkaline or rechargeable batteries, our lithium batteries show an annual deterioration rate as low as about 1% at room temperature, meeting the requirement for a room temperate storage period of at least 10 years. With longer shelf-life, you can be sure that these lithium batteries have enough capacity for powering the light at most critical time.
Manufactured in the U.S.A., every CR123A has a built-in PTC element for protecting batteries from external shorting. They are also provided with an explosion-proof seal structure which allows the safe release of unwanted pressure. Each CR123A battery has at least 1500 mAh nominal capacity. The secret is in the interior of these manganese dioxide lithium batteries that have a spiral-structured electrode to enlarge the facing area of the positive and negative electrodes. This design allows a higher supplying current possible given the size. This is one of the reasons why our batteries last longer than many of the imported ones.
Depending on the power rating of the light, each light may require from one to several batteries. Although CR123A lithium batteries are widely available at cameras and other consumer electronics outlets, PentagonLight is providing premium grade CR123A lithium batteries to its user base.
